I have them) 2 degus (Squirel and animals and want to build up some levels in his cage. I have a local Home Depot, but do not know what kind of wood? Ideas? Any alternative to levels that I can get at Home Depot?

Preferably, a hardwood like maple or birch treated, but they are expensive. Untreated Aspen is safe. If left untreated pine should not be used, but is safer than any cedar or treated wood. What ever you do, not cedar or anything that deals with anything (for example, was pressure treated, which contains arsenic).

Yes, you could build or find a pair of wooden crates stacked, holes that can also work if they. Screw together, to fall, even if it's fun. Plywood also work, as well as pine or fir.

Pine and cedar are safe for hamsters, so I think it would be similar for an animal Squirel certainly.
